Human Rights Statement and Supply Chain Due Diligence
At Emma, we aim to disrupt the sleep industry while upholding human, environmental and labor rights. We strive to create a work environment that respects and promotes these rights throughout our company and its operations. Our focus is on conducting our business in a socially responsible manner and fostering a more sustainable supply chain that respects the welfare of our communities and safeguards the rights of our partners’ workforce.
We condemn unjustifiable discrimination based on nationality, gender, religion, or other characteristics, as well as any form of violence or harassment.
We are committed to complying with local regulations regarding minimum age requirements (or more stringent international standards, when applicable). We also strictly prohibit the use of forced labor and exploitative working conditions.
Emma maintains a robust anti-corruption framework that prohibits partners from engaging in any activities that could be perceived as corrupt practices or improper benefits. We demonstrate our commitment through strict compliance with anti-money laundering and anti-corruption laws across all operational jurisdictions. Furthermore, Emma pledges full cooperation with regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies in investigating potential corruption cases, while maintaining transparent communication standards that it expects its partners to uphold as well.
As a German based company, Emma is currently following Germany’s Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (the LkSG - Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz) and preparing for the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. These laws require German/EU-based enterprises to maintain a heightened sustainability standard with due diligence obligations that respect human rights and environmental protection across their business operations and supply chain.
The key components of these due diligence obligations include:
- Establishing a risk management system to identify, prevent or minimize risks within the business and its supply chain;
- Conducting preventive and remedial measures when risks are identified;
- Establishing a formal complaints procedure; and
- Documenting these efforts.
To proactively address risks, Emma has integrated an AI-driven software tool that allows us to evaluate and rank our supply chain business partners according to their history, industry, country of origin, peer score and worldwide news. This enables us to identify potential risks.
As part of our preventive measures, Emma not only utilizes the above-mentioned AI software, but also requires its supply chain partners to adhere to our External Code of Conduct, accessible through the link provided below. The acknowledgement of this document by both, you and Emma, ensures that we uphold ethical and compliant business practices. Additionally, our partners may be asked to complete a questionnaire about the partner’s business and operations, primarily focusing on human rights and environmental matters.
In our External Code of Conduct below, we also include a QR code that is directly connected to our Whistleblower Channel called Speak Up. Our business partners shall make this QR code accessible to all its workers and employees. All complaints that arrive via the Speak Up channel are kept confidential and are assessed under great scrutiny by our Human Rights Officer and its team.
