Due Diligence Annual Statement: Our Commitments and Supply Chain Due Diligence
05.05.2023
We, at Emma, want to disrupt the sleep industry while we keep respecting human, environmental and labor rights. As such, we are committed to conducting our business in a socially responsible manner and specially to a sustainable supply chain where the interests of our communities are respected and the rights of our supplierĀ“s employees are safeguarded.
We condemn unjustifiable discrimination based on nationality, gender, religion, etc., as well as any type of violence and harassment.
In particular, we are committed to compliance with local minimum age laws and requirements (or those prescribed by international standards if more stringent). We also strictly prohibit the use of forced labor and exploitative working conditions.
As a German based company we are currently following the LkSG (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, LkSG) or the Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains. This law has come into force on the 1st of January and places all the enterprises that have their headquarters in Germany, under the obligation to respect human rights by implementing defined due diligence obligations.
The core elements of the due diligence obligations include:
- Establishment of a risk management system to identify, prevent or minimize risks;
- Necessary preventive and remedial measures;
- Establishing a mandatory complaints procedure; and
- Reporting.
To identify, prevent or minimize risks Emma has onboarded an AI-based tool that allows us to rank the suppliers according to their history, industry, country of origin, peer score and worldwide news.
As preventive measures Emma not only onboarded the above-mentioned AI-based tool, but it is also requesting all its suppliers to sign the Supplier Code of Conduct that you can find below. The signature of this document by both you and Emma, will allow us to put in place remedial measures (Corrective Action Plans) collectively with the supplier. In certain cases, the Suppliers can also be requested to fill a Questionnaire that is composed of different sections.
Our Supplier Code Conduct includes a hyperlink that is directly connected to our Whistle Blower Channel. The Supplier shall make this link accessible to all its workers and employees. All complaints that arrive to this channel are kept confidential and are assessed under great scrutiny by our Human Rights Office and its team.
